How to Respond |
Cultural Competence |
Inclusive Communication |
Compassionate Organization |
Most of us wouldn't dream of intentionally offending anyone -
let alone a colleague, a student or a professor. However in our ever-changing
world, it is sometimes hard to keep up with what's right and what's
not.
You are likely acquainted with the Golden Rule, "Treat others as you
want to be treated." You may also be acquainted with the Platinum Rule,
"Treat others as THEY want to be treated." It isn't always
easy to discern how someone else would want to be treated because it requires
the ability to consider things from someone else's perspective. Respect
requires us to make the effort to understand the other person.
Inclusive Communication provides an opportunity to consider
how we interact with each other.
Cultural Competence affords us the opportunity to look at
differences between families, regions, and countries of origin.
Respect requires the ability to actively engage in a process
of changing how we see each other.
